David Tua connects with a left jab to Friday Ahunanya during their 12 round fight at The Trusts Centre, Waitakere, Auckland, New Zealand on 31st March, 2010. David Tua won the fight by a unanimous points decision. Andy Conlan/FIGHTSHOTS

I’ve never in 18 yearsof going to fight events experienced a spectacle like the one leading up to David Tua’s fight against Friday Ahunanya, or the feeling that came over the stadium when a special version of Nessun Dorma drifted across the crowd, as a contrast to the energy of the Nigerian supporters at ringside. What an atmosphere that was, truly one of those ones that you had to be at live. Earlier, Jordan Luck and Peter Urlich gave the crowd a taste of nostalgia with a couple of local classics too, which were very welcome additions to the evening. 30 Pictures from David Tua’s fight after the jump, with more to come from the under card bouts at a later date …

A ready line up fighters made their way onto the scales before a packed crowd in the lobby of the Sky City Casino today, Auckland, New Zealand, for the weigh-in of David Tua and Friday Ahunanya. With the WBO watching this fight closely for the result, it could be an historic fight resulting in one of these heavyweights qualifying for a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. I shot the King of The Door MMA Four Man Competition last night at the YMCA, Auckland, for NZMMA.TV.

Pride Promotions put on a huge show with top action. 7 Fights in Total, with extra entertainment, including a stick fighting demonstration.

I delivered what should end up being a couple of hundred shots to Nyra from NZMMA.TV, so make sure you visit her to get the full  photographic coverage.

In the meantime, there are a few photographic highlights, including a few pictures not seen anywhere else (because they’re too arty farty), after the jump …

Congratulations to Kaota Puna from Strikeforce (shown above warming up before the final fight of the night), who finished three fights in record time, mostly by lightning fast submissions, to take the inaugural King of The Door Title and win the cash!

Written by NZFighters.com staff Not just anyone gets the chance to spar with the Tuaman and I don’t think just anyone would want to. NZFighters had the privilege of getting up-close and personal with two of David Tua’s international sparring partners, Harold Sconiers and Israel Garcia, at one of Tua’s training sessions in Onehunga on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

On the same night as the Attitude Adjustment Boxing Promotion, City Kickboxing were having a Thai Boxing Novice/Amateur show right at their Upper Queen Street Gym. I went back and forth between two, and managed to get shots from four of the City Kickboxing fights before heading back to the ABA for the main event for their night. After that, I finished by shooting the last fight at the City Kickboxing Promotion. More highlight photographs after the jump.

Remember, for full high resolution galleries of the fights shown here, call me on 021-352-436. If you can see your fight here, we’ve got the images from it.

The ABA in Mt. Eden, Auckland, was packed to capacity on February 27th, despite the stifling heat. With 15 fights on the card from C to A Class, the display of skill from the exponents made the perspiration worthwhile. I was there to shoot the event for ICNZ MMA. Thanks to ICNZ for inviting me along again, there’s always something new to shoot, and it’s great to see the fighters moving up in class and displaying greater skills with each event. I would like to also mention that they raised several hundred dollars for the Spinal Unit in Otara from the generosity of the crowd. Check out a small selection of highlight shots, as well as fight results from the event after the jump (courtesy of NZFighters.com), and then visit The Official ICNZ Website for full photographic coverage, with hundreds, and I mean hundreds of pictures of the pain.
